#4 The Phoenicians invented the purple dye which is also known as Tyrian purple. The color was discovered in Tyre in 1570 BC. The Phoenicians also made an indigo dye which is referred to as royal blue. The Romans used it to color ceremonial robes.
#9 The original island city had two harbors which enabled it to gain a great maritime power. The harbor on the north side of the island was one of the best ports on the eastern end of the Mediterranean.
