The Lebanese Internal Security Forces (ISF) announced on Tuesday the arrest in Akkar of a 17-year-old Lebanese plotting a terrorist attack against a religious site in the northern region of Lebanon.
He confessed to being part of ISIS and having prepared material to create an explosive device. Grenades were found in a warehouse next to his place of residence by the ISF.
Lebanon has suffered in the past years from attacks of ISIS terrorist groups, which are still active in neighboring Syria.
Earlier in February, the Lebanese Army apprehended 18 individuals linked to ISIS and who had intentions to carry out terrorist acts in Lebanon. That was followed by the arrest of 2 other ISIS individuals during a raid in Arsal, Baalbek.
In March, the Lebanese Army’s Directorate of Intelligence arrested several ISIS members who were preparing suicide attacks on sites belonging to the Lebanese Army and security forces.
A similar planned attack was foiled in June 2020 when three ISIS members were caught plotting against the Lebanese Security forces.
