This gorgeous village on top of the village of Tannourine carries a name of Syriac origin, Chotin, meaning “drink.”

It overlooks the breathtaking scenery of the valley and nature surrounding it and is most famous for the Balou Balaa (or Balaa Sinkhole), which is described by The Guardian as one of the World’s Best Waterfalls.

The site of the breathtaking falls is among the best destinations for a road trip in Lebanon to overlook a stunning stream of water shooting for 250 meters to the bottom of the cave!

Located in the Caza of Batroun, the village has two churches, including the Saidet Chatine church and a small chapel on its top.

When visiting Chatine, you can experience the stunning Tannourine Cedars Forest Nature Reserve, which spreads over an area of over 600 hectares, crowing about 60 000 cedars.

You can also enjoy a nice hiking experience either on the Tannourine al Fawqa – Akoura trail or the Bazaoun-Tannourine al Fawqa trail.

When in Chatine, you can stay at the Candle Cave Chalets and Campsite located near Balou Balaa. The chalets offer a peaceful and refreshing retreat surrounded by nice-looking scenery. For more info, contact 76 447 855.
