On Tuesday, UNICEF issued an urgent press release saying that at least 4 children were reportedly injured by celebratory stray bullets following the announcement of the results of the elections.
“Children and youth in Lebanon increasingly find themselves exposed to gun violence at home and in their neighborhoods. No child should live in fear. UNICEF reminds caregivers […] to prevent children from being exposed to risks threatening their lives and wellbeing,” the organization warned.
Stressing that this is a very dangerous tradition that needs to end, UNICEF stated that “many children were killed, injured or witnessed losing their parents or loved ones due to gunfire accidents. No child should be pushed to participate in, witness, or be a target of acts of violence.”
Among the tragic incidents that occurred these two days from celebratory gunfire, a woman was hit in the head in north Lebanon by a stray bullet.
