The Israeli military fired multiple shells into Lebanese territory on Tuesday, the Lebanese Army announced in a statement.

The Lebanese Wadi Hamoul area was targeted by Israeli artillery fire between 3:35 AM and 4:45 AM on Tuesday, the Lebanese Army‘s Directorate of Orientation said.

The area was attacked with 12 155-mm shells, but no injuries or damage were reported in the aftermath.

The army said the attack came after the Israeli military claimed that two rockets had fallen into Israel from Lebanon overnight.

“In the vicinity of the Al-Qulayleh area, an army unit found three launchpads for launching 122-mm Grad rockets, one of which was a rocket that was ready to launch and was disabled by the specialized units,” it added.

The Israeli military announced earlier that its missile defenses had shot down one of two rockets fired from Lebanon. The other rocket landed in an open area.

UNIFIL said it was in contact with the Lebanese Army and Israel “to urge maximum restraint and avoid further escalation” and that it had launched an investigation into the incident.
