As Lebanese cities across the country suffer long hours of power outages, people have decided to take matters into their own hands.

Unknown people in the Bekaa Valley stopped a tanker transporting diesel to Zahle Electricity Company (EDZ).

This comes at a time when generator owners have begun shutting off their engines in some major cities citing diesel shortages.

The power cuts have hampered people’s work, the operation of hospitals, restaurants, and hotels, and have even left some people with no choice but to sleep on their balconies to fight the heat.

Last month, people in North Lebanon hijacked a gas tanker belonging to the Apec petroleum company. They even distributed containers of gasoline among one another.

People were not able to do the same with the diesel tanker which was on its way to unload diesel into the tanks belonging to EDZ.

The Lebanese Army was deployed to stop the people from hijacking it.

Caretaker Minister of Energy and Water Raymond Ghajar said upon his arrival in Beirut from Iraq on Saturday that Lebanon could now expect 4 months of electricity, supplied by the oil from Iraq.
