Lebanese Future Movement MP, Rola Tabsh, took a shot at the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) in a tweet last night after the power at her residence was cut while she was doing an interview with Sky News.

“This is proof that even we, politicians, get power cuts just like all the rest of the Lebanese people and we feel with the Lebanese people,” she said during the interview.

On Twitter, Sky News shared the moment the electricity was cut during the interview, showcasing the ridiculousness of a country that still experiences such power outages in the year 2021.

Tabsh retweeted the video, writing, “Daily suffering in the ‘Reign of Darkness’… We’re paying the price of corruption in the electricity sector that was in the custody of Aounist (FPM) ministers, and we have not seen any official held accountable for what constitutes half of the public debt of about $45 billion.”

A decade ago, the former Energy Minister MP Gebran Bassil promised Lebanon that it would have 24-hour electricity in a plan that cost the country billions.

That never happened. On the contrary, the electricity went on to become less and less of an amenity and more of a rarity.

Today, Lebanon’s power cuts have become excruciatingly difficult to tolerate. Some parts of the country are suffering more than 10 hours of absolute blackout.

Some generator owners have decided to shut off their generators completely, leaving many homes in complete darkness and with no salvation from the searing summer heat and humidity.
