Abbas Halabi was appointed as Education and Higher Education Minister in the newly-formed Lebanese government. Here’s everything you need to know about him.

A former judge and St. Joseph University (USJ) professor, Minister Halabi has served in a variety of positions that include Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors and Legal Council of the Bank of Beirut and the Arab Countries.

He has also been a member of committees such as the National Committee for Islamic-Christian Dialogue and is the co-founder of the Arab Islamic-Christian Group for the Islamic-Christian Dialogue.

Halabi is a founding member of both the Walid Jumblatt Foundation for University Studies and the Druze Council for Research and Development.

He is also Vice-President of the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO, which he has served as among other positions at various other foundations, associations, and committees throughout his career.

His degrees include a Lebanese Law degree from USJ, a diploma in European Community Law from the France-based European University Center of Nancy, and a diploma in Comparative Law from the International Center of Comparative Law of Paris.

He was nominated for the Education Ministry position by Progressive Socialist Party President Walid Jumblatt.
