Lebanese Alex Azar Was Just Announced As America’s Health Secretary

On Monday, the Lebanese-American Alex Azar was appointed by President Donald Trump as secretary of the U.S. Health and Human Services Department.

The new HHS Secretary said that his priorities are reducing the price of prescription drugs, making healthcare more affordable, and combat opioid addiction.

Azar’s grandfather moved to the U.S. 100 years ago. Until January 2017, he was the President of Lilly USA, a global pharmaceutical company based in Indianapolis. He holds a law degree from Yale University.

Azar worked in the law field for ten years. After being nominated for the post of General Counsel of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, he discovered that he is passionate about healthcare. He spent 15 years in this field.
