The Lebanese Professor of Medicine, Ali Taher, was the winner of the European Hematology Association (EHA) Education and Mentoring Award 2022.
This award recognized the Director of the Naef K. Basile Cancer Institute (NKBCI) at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC)’s achievements in educating and mentoring hematologists around the world.
Professor Taher is highly recognized for his contributions to benign hemoglobinopathies, especially focusing on the prevention of thalassemia patients.
His major work in benign hematology is highly reflected by an extensive publication record and numerous awards for his work in research and education.
Ali Taher is currently a vice-chair for research at the Department of Internal Medicine at the AUBMC.
He is also a member of a team of consultants at the Thalassemia Department of the Chronic Care Center (CCC), where he worked on programs to prevent and manage thalassemia patients in Lebanon.
In 2011, he was granted the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) for his dedication to advancing knowledge and research.
Taher was announced as a doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) from Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) in 2012 for his major work on thalassemia intermedia.
