The Lebanese Information Division (Maaloumet) has reportedly arrested Ali Haider Assaf and Mahdi Ali Aqil, who were responsible for the attack on Al-Jadeed’s building last December.
The two attackers, who are said to belong to the Amal movement, have allegedly confessed to opening fire on the building and were found to be in possession of weapons and a quantity of cannabis.
According to sources, Mahdi Aqil used a military rifle owned by him to carry out the attack, while the black BMW car used by the two attackers was owned by Aqil’s father.
The car was confiscated by the Information Division, which found that its license plate had been replaced prior to the attack.
The attack on Al-Jadeed’s building occurred in the early hours of December 30, 2022, as part of a series of assaults with bullets and Molotov cocktails that lasted for four days.
The detainees have been transferred to the Beirut Investigation Department, and investigations are ongoing with the involvement of the Public Defender, Judge Ghassan Khoury.
