The global financial services company American Express (AMEX) has recently announced its commitment to support relief efforts in blast-struck Beirut.
AMEX is donating $100,000 to the Lebanese Red Cross, through the American Red Cross, and will help provide urgent supplies such as food, shelter, and medical care.
The explosion has killed nearly 200 people and displaced thousands of families. Victims hurt during the blast are still suffering from serious injuries; most of them are still in hospitals.
Companies like Facebook, Google, P&G, and more have pledged hundreds of thousands of dollars to support Beirut recover from the explosion that shattered the capital and destroyed historic neighborhoods.
It is the third week following the blast. Beirut still has a long way to go to return to its former glory – and better – and can use all the help it can get.
The journey will be tedious but the enormous amount of support Lebanon is receiving from around the world sparks hope.
