An MP Just Raised The Beirut Port Blast Victims’ Photos In The Parliament

MP Firas Hamdan was seen lifting up the pictures of the 244 victims of the Beirut Port blast in the parliament.

The parliamentary session was called to elect a president after failing to do so for months.

MP Firas Hamdan is an Independent candidate that won the Druze seat in the South 3 district under the “Together for Change” list. He was able to dethrone the seat after being held for 30 years, previously by PSP-backed Marwan Kheireddine.

MP Firas Hamdan was heavily active in protesting on the streets during the Lebanese revolution. He was assaulted by the parliamentary guards and badly injured by shrapnel after an anti-riot device was thrown near him. He later submitted a draft bill for a law to recognize the crimes committed by the parliamentary guards against the Lebanese revolution.

After being elected, he iconically said “If you are asked where the revolution is… then tell them that it has become within the parliament.”

The Beirut Port Blast investigation has been stalled due to political interference. Last week, families of the victims escalated their protests and resulting in the arrest of William Noun and the summoning of 13 relatives of the victims for questioning.
