The Lebanese Army announced on Friday the arrest of wanted terrorist Ahmad Al-Shami.
In a statement, the Lebanese Army’s Directorate of Orientation said that the Army’s intelligence directorate had detained Al-Shami, who belongs to the cell of the terrorist Khaled Tallawi, who was shot dead during an army raid.
The arrest operation took place in coordination with army units stationed in Hilane-Zgharta, North Lebanon, according to the statement.
The Army Command said that the captured terrorist “was involved in the crime of killing the four soldiers during a search of the apartment of the arrested Abdul Razzaq Al-Riz in the Jabal Al-Baddawi region on 13/09/2020.”
Additionally, his involvement is suspected in the shooting of several locals in Kaftoun. His arrest could prove helpful to the ongoing investigation into the Kaftoun crime.
According to LBCI, Al-Shami was captured in a building under construction and was armed with a grenade that he was unable to use because of the fast response on the part of the unit that arrested him.
A video showing the moment after his arrest spread online, showing soldiers and army intelligence personnel escorting the terrorist, presumably to a nearby vehicle.
The Lebanese Army said that it had handed Al-Shami over to the competent reference.
The arrest of Ahmad Al-Shami comes 2 weeks after the Army apprehended Abdul Razzaq Walid Al-Riz, of the same terrorist cell, in Zgharta.
