Through the efforts of the Lebanese Embassy in Germany, represented by diplomat Moustafa Adeeb, German authorities handed over the Ashmun archaeological head.
This handover was facilitated by the head of the Criminal Police Office – Archaeological and Artistic Property Branch in Bavaria.
Last year, this significant archaeological piece, known as the “Head discovered at the Ashmun site” (1966) was found in Munich, Germany.
Lebanon’s Minister of Culture, Judge Mohammad Wissam Mortada, played a crucial role in recovering this artifact.
This event is part of an initiative by the Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Lebanese Embassy in Berlin.
The archaeological head of Ashmun, included in the General Directorate of Antiquities’ inventory, was originally documented by scientist Donnan during excavations at the Bustan al-Sheikh site near Sidon.
It was initially stored in Sidon and later moved to Jbeil, from where it was stolen in 1981.
