Dalí painting seized by the Internal Security Forces is fake!

On October 13, the Internal Security Forces (ISF) of Lebanon announced that it had

seized a painting

that is probably an original work by the renowned Spanish painter Salvador Dalí which was stolen and being trafficked. The painting is called “Portrait of Mrs. Reeves.” It was painted in 1954, and the original is likely to cost $200,000 to $300,000. According to

, an expert in Dalí's artwork Robert Descharnes said that the painting which was seized is fake. He received the photos of the painting via email and compared them to the pictures of the original painting from his archives. After several examinations, he concluded that the painting is a copy. Other authorities in Europe are also examining the seized artwork. The ISF is waiting for an official report. The four traffickers were arrested after an investigation conducted by the ISF’s International Crimes Prevention Bureau in the Cola area of Beirut and Dohat Aramoun in Metn. They are currently under jurisdiction.
