Zahreddine’s story begins with a tragic car accident in the Chekka tunnel in 2002, which led to the amputation of his right leg when he was just three years old. His brother also lost his left leg in the same accident. Between the ages of 3 and 14, Zahreddine endured around 19 operations.

Despite these challenges, the psychological toll was equally heavy. Zahreddine faced bullying from schoolmates and society throughout his childhood. However, instead of letting these difficulties define him, he turned to sports as a means of empowerment and healing.

Zahreddine’s dedication to athletics has yielded remarkable results. He first gained international recognition as Lebanon’s only representative in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, where he finished 9th in the 200m – T64 with a time of 24.44 seconds.

His journey continued with a strong showing at the 2019 World Championships in Dubai, where he placed 11th in the 200m – T64, recording a time of 24.74 seconds. In 2022, he competed in the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China, finishing 6th in both the 100m – T64 and 200m – T64 events.

Arz Zahreddine’s achievements don’t stop there. Last year, he won a gold medal in the 200m at the Francophone Games, solidifying his status as the fastest man in the 100m in West Asia. His journey from a child who faced immense challenges to becoming a gold medalist is a testament to his indomitable spirit.

In the Paris 2024 Paralympics, Zahreddine will once again compete in the Men’s 100m – T64, with the first round scheduled for September 1st. Despite having 10 Lebanese athletes at the Olympic games, Arz will be Lebanon’s sole representative this year at the Paralympics.

Off the track, Zahreddine enjoys reading and exploring new places, which provide him with inspiration and motivation. His life story, marked by triumph over adversity, serves as a powerful example to others, particularly in Lebanon, of the strength and resilience required to overcome life’s challenges.

Arz Zahreddine continues to carry the hopes of an entire nation as he competes on the world stage, embodying the spirit of perseverance and the belief that with determination, any obstacle can be overcome.
