At least 50 individuals lost their lives in double blasts near Qassem Suleimani‘s burial site in Kerman, Iran, as reported by state media. This coincides with the four-year commemoration of Suleimani’s assassination by the US in Baghdad.
The first explosion occurred approximately 700 meters from the Saheb Al Zaman mosque, close to where the esteemed commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force is laid to rest.
A subsequent blast took place about a kilometer from the shrine, away from the pilgrims’ route and inspection checkpoints.
The aftermath of the explosions saw 15 people urgently transported to local hospitals in Kerman. Reports also emerged of injuries caused by a stampede following the blasts.
Rahman Jalali, Kerman province’s deputy governor, declared the incident a terrorist attack on state TV.
