As life is returning back to normal, events that we hold so dearly in our hearts are also returning. The American University of Lebanon (AUB) is known for its legacy and it has honored just that in its 2022 Alumni Reunion.
After being put on hold since 2019, due to the health and economic crisis, the Alumni Reunion and Honoring Ceremony are back. The two-day event honored the classes of 1971, 1972, and 1997 celebrating their 50th and 25th graduation anniversaries.
The reunion was kicked off with the honoring ceremony that took place in the Assembly Hall to celebrate the anniversaries. The event was live-streamed on Facebook so that family, friends, and alumni that are abroad can virtually participate.
AUB’s president, Dr. Fadlo Khuri, stressed the importance of honoring this legacy. As he said in his speech “When we honor you, we also honor our university and the power of the connection that we share that transcends not only years but great geographical distance.”
This celebration served as a redemption for the class of 1971 as luck wasn’t on their side during their celebratory years. In fact, the 2021 reunion was canceled due to the Covid pandemic, the 25th anniversary was also canceled because of the 1996 war, and there was no initial commencement in 1971.
The event was then followed by an Alumni party by AUB’s green oval that brings a taste of Africa to the university’s campus. The celebration was free of charge and family-friendly. It was also accompanied by African food, music, and a kid’s activity corner.
The celebrations continued on the following day as well. On June 24th, Alumni signed up for half-hour tours of the renowned AUB Museum.
Finally, the event ended under the stars where guests got to enjoy the performance of the legendary Jihad Akl and his Band. Held in AUB’s green oval, the concert was the perfect way to conclude the two-day celebrations.
As always, all proceeds from this heartwarming reunion were dedicated to students’ scholarships at AUB.
