This Is How A Restaurant In Lebanon Celebrated World Blood Donor Day!

Every year on the 14th of June, the world celebrates World Blood Donor Day (WBDD). 2017 marks the 13th year of this annual celebration. WBDD aims to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation. In addition to that, blood donors are thanked for regularly offering life-saving gifts. In collaboration with Donner Sang Compter (DSC),

DIVVY

, a restaurant in Lebanon, decided to celebrate WBDD in its own special way. The table mats at DIVVY were blood donor application forms. The information of the people who signed up will be added to a database. Therefore, whenever a blood donor is needed, DSC can find the best match easily. With the help of Charbel and Rawad, WBDD got a lot more meaningful. They thanked in advance the people who filled the form on behalf of the ones that will receive their blood. In 2004, Rawad Haddad got into a car accident that cost his arm. He needed 72 bags of blood to make it. With the generous help of 72 people, Rawad survived. At the age of 16, Charbel Maroun found out that he has leukaemia. He spent 3.5 years in the hospital. A person that he doesn’t know donated blood to him which helped Charbel continue fighting cancer. These two young men encourage people to donate blood and to save lives.

Why should you donate blood?

If you’re an active social media user, you know that there are many posts about people who urgently need blood in Lebanon mainly because there is a shortage of blood supply. Donating blood regularly will ensure that enough blood will be available at the disposal of those who need it. It will certainly lower the stress of their loved ones because looking for blood is harder than it seems: the donor should be near (if the case is urgent) and the blood types should match. Also, some people need a lot of blood which makes the process of finding blood a lot harder. If you’re healthy and you're able to donate blood, just do it! You could save a life or even more! Let’s thank all blood donors for their acts! After all, not all heroes wear capes! For more information on how to become a blood donor for DSC, check its
