Lebanon’s decision to release the “Barbie” fantasy movie in theaters comes after initial concerns raised by the Minister of Culture, Muhammad Murtada, about its alignment with the country’s values.
A committee, including representatives from Public Security and the Ministry of Economy, reviewed the film and found no reason to ban it. This paved the way for an official release in Lebanese cinemas in the coming days.
Grand Cinemas told 961 that the movie will start screening on August 31st.
“Barbie” has dominated North American box offices for over a month, becoming a global phenomenon. Directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, it follows the iconic doll’s adventures in the real world, inspiring a theme park based on her life.
