Member of Parliament Gebran Bassil denied any links to the Lebanese businessman Dany Al-Khoury, who was recently sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury.

In a tweet on Thursday, Bassil said, “Dany Khoury is neither my partner in politics nor I’m his partner in business.”

“Countries are oppressing people, but there will come a day when the truth will vindicate all the oppressed,” he added.

The tweet of Bassil, who was earlier sanctioned by the US, came in response to sanctions newly imposed by the US Treasury Department on Lebanese businessmen Dany Al-Khoury and Jihad Al-Arab, and MP Jamil Al-Sayed, due to corruption accusations.

The statement that was issued by the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) stated that Al-Khoury is a close business partner to MP Gebran Bassil, which had enabled him to obtain contracts worth millions of dollars, resulting in personal benefits.

The statement also accused Al-Khoury and his company of “dumping toxic waste and refuse [rubbles] into the Mediterranean Sea, poisoning fisheries, and polluting Lebanon’s beaches, all while failing to remedy the garbage crisis,”
