“Beirut: Eye of the Storm” by Mai Masri, a Beirut-based Palestinian filmmaker, took the Special Jury Award at the 19th EBS International Documentary Film Festival (EIDF) 2022.
The film follows four women who document the events that affected their lives following October 2019 Thawra and the Covid-19 pandemic, which locked them in Beirut.
The women express their opinion about the many complexities in the country, which are followed by the devastating Beirut Blast in 2020.
“Beirut: Eye of the Storm” revolves around journalist Hanine, Iraqi camerawoman Lujain, and sisters/artists Noel and Michelle.
The non-chronological film was also previously screened at the acclaimed International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA).
