In a meeting held in Ain al-Tineh, parliament speaker Nabih Berri and PSP leader Walid Jumblatt confirmed that Michel Moawad has no chance of becoming the next President of Lebanon.
The two politicians agreed on the need to consider other names in the presidential race and Berri isn’t vetoing the army commander’s potential candidacy.
Berri stated that he will not call for a presidential election session unless there are serious candidates, but he will call for legislative sessions to address the country’s current affairs.
Jumblatt added that they are working to break down political barriers in order to reach a consensus and elect a new President for Lebanon.
Lebanon has been without a president since the end of October 2022 after Michel Aoun finished his term. More than 11 sessions were held attempting to elect a President but have failed.
