In a meeting between US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron that took place on Thursday in Washington D.C., the two leaders urged Lebanon to elect a new president following the end of Michel Aoun’s presidency.
According to a statement by the White House, “they are determined to sustain joint efforts to urge Lebanon’s leaders to elect a president and advance critical reforms.”
Aoun’s term ended on October 31, and the Parliament is yet to come to a decision regarding who will become his successor. Within the past month, the Parliament has failed 8 times to reach a consensus.
