The United States President Joe Biden approved attacks against Iran-backed militias located in Syria.

The strike was in retaliation to recent rocket attacks against American troops positioned in Erbil, Iraq, which killed a Filipino national and injured a U.S. service member and other contractors.

According to a U.S. official, the U.S. attack overnight was anticipated to have caused minimal damage.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights later reported that there were at least 22 casualties from Kata’ib Hezbollah of Iraq (Hezbollah Brigades) and at least 6 others from Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada.

This was Biden’s first military action since taking office.
