The municipality of Blat located in the Byblos District has begun efforts to secure the COVID-19 vaccine for its senior residents.
“We initiated the necessary contacts with the concerned parties from government agencies and ministries to secure the vaccine free and optionally for residents aged 55 years and over, in Blat, Qartaboun, and Mestita, without exception, to remove this nightmare,” announced the Blat Municipality.
The municipality has asked those wishing to receive the vaccine to fill out a form found on its website or Facebook page within the next two weeks to help it determine the quantity it needs to secure.
On Sunday, caretaker Health Minister Hamad Hasan signed the final contract with Pfizer to secure the vaccines. Lebanon will begin receiving the shipments in early February.
The initiative taken by the Blat Municipality can help in the distribution process of the vaccine, granted, the Health Ministry has indicated that the distribution would be prioritized to those most vulnerable to the virus.
That said, Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri is reportedly trying to secure 1 million doses of the Chinese-made vaccine for Lebanon, although his media office hasn’t confirmed it or denied it in its statement issued after local media reported it.
