Yesterday, people in Lebanon enjoyed the longest lunar eclipse of the century that lasted for a record-breaking 1 hour and 43 minutes! The moon appeared blood red and pictures of this rare celestial event took over social media.
The eclipse was best seen in non-urban cities where there’s no light pollution such as the villages in North Lebanon. The shots are clear and mesmerizing!
@nasaMany astronomy enthusiasts formed groups and spent the night in the mountains to watch the blood moon through telescopes.
But that’s not all! Mars started appearing unusually large and bright as it makes its closest approach to Earth in 15 years! The Red Planet will be visible till Tuesday.
You’ll be able to see it with the naked eye, but it could be interesting to see it through binoculars or a telescope.
On average, Mars is about 140 million miles from Earth. The approach happening this month will at a distance of about 35.8 million miles away from Earth, according to NASA.
By mid-August, Mars will become fainter as Mars and Earth travel farther away from each other in their orbits around the Sun.
Mars won’t be this close until September 2035.
