A woman was killed by a stray bullet while she was asleep on Saturday in North Lebanon.
“M.A.” was sleeping in her bedroom, in her family home in the village of Jdeidit Al-Qaytaa, Akkar District, when a bullet went through her window and killed her.
The 28-year-old victim was a mother of four, according to the National News Agency (NNA).
The bullet originated in a nearby village, where unidentified individuals had recently fired celebratory shots.
The incident outraged the victim’s family and the people of Jdeidit Al-Qaytaa, who called upon security forces to swiftly open a serious investigation to uncover the shooters and hold them accountable.
A team of Lebanese Red Cross paramedics arrived at the scene following the incident, pending the arrival of forensic investigators, security forces, and a forensic pathologist.
Several villages in Akkar have been witnessing heavy random gunfire for days with the approach of the release of the results of the official exams, according to the NNA.
This is the third victim of random gunfire to be recorded in Akkar in the past month alone. Last week, a stray bullet killed a 7-year-old girl in the town of Minyara.
