After electing the members of all 16 committees in the 2022 Lebanese Parliament, the MPs elected each committee’s chairman and rapporteur on Friday, June 10.

In the Administration and Justice Committee:

George Adwan (LF) retained the position of chairman which he won back in 2018. Georges Atallah (FPM) won the position of rapporteur which was held by previous Hezbollah MP Nawaf Moussawi.

In the Finance and Budget Committee:

Ibrahim Kanaan (FPM) also retained his position as chairman of the committee while Ali Fayyad (Hezbollah) won the position of rapporteur after it was held by the previous MP Nicolas Nahhas (Azm Movement).

In the Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Committee:

Fadi Alameh (Amal Movement) won the position of chairman, which was previously held by another Amal MP, Yassine Jaber. Hagop Pakradounian (Tashnag) retained his position as rapporteur.

In the Public Works and Energy Committee:

Sajeeh Ateya (Independent) won the position of chairman after it was held by former MP Nazih Najem (Future Movement). Meanwhile, Mohammad Khawaja (Amal Movement) won the position of rapporteur which was held by Hikmat Dib (FPM).

In the Education and Culture Committee:

Hassan Mrad (March 8 affiliated, Independent) won the position of chairman after it was held by former MP Bahia Al Hariri (Future Movement). Edgard Traboulsi (FPM) won the position of rapporteur after it was held by fellow FPM member Assaad Dergham.

In the Public Health, Labor, and Social Affairs Committee:

Bilal Abdullah (PSP) won the position of chairman, which was previously held by former MP Assem Araji (Future Movement). Meanwhile, Samer Al Toum (FPM) won the position of rapporteur which was held by former MP Mario Aoun (FPM).

In the Defense, Interior, and Municipal Affairs Committee:

Jihad Al Samad (March 8 affiliated Independent) won the position of chairman after it was held by Samir Jisr (Future Movement), while Assaad Dergham (FPM) took the position of rapporteur which was held by former MP Anwar Khalil (Amal Movement).

    In the Displaced Affairs Committee:

Hagop Pakradounian (Tashnag) won the position of chairman after it was held by Jean Talouzian (Independent). On the other hand, Hussein Jashi (Hezbollah) won the position of rapporteur after it was held by his ally former Amal MP Mohammad Nasrallah.

In the Agriculture and Tourism Committee:

Ayoub Hmayed (Amal Movement) retained his position as chairman while Adib Abdel Massih (Independent) won the position of rapporteur after it was held by former MP Cesar Maalouf (Lebanese Forces).

    In the Environment Committee:

Ghayyath Yazbek (Lebanese Forces) won the position of chairman after it was held by Marwan Hamade (PSP). On the other hand, Kassem Hachem (Amal Movement) retained the position of rapporteur which he won in 2018.

In the Economy, Industry, and Planning Committee:

Michel Daher (Independent) won the position of chairman which was previously held by Neemat Frem, a former FPM member but currently independent MP. On the other hand, Nasser Jaber (Amal Movement) won the position of rapporteur after it was held by his ally and former MP Ali Bazzi (Amal Movement).

In the Media and Telecommunications Committee:

Ibrahim Al Moussawi (Hezbollah) won the position of chairman which was held by his fellow Hezbollah MP, Hussein Hajj Hassan. Meanwhile, Mohammad Sleiman (Ex-Future Movement) attained the rapporteur position after it was held by his fellow Future Movement MP, Mohammad Tarek Al Merehbi.

In the Youth and Sports Committee:

Simon Abi Ramia (FPM) retained the position of chairman. Meanwhile, Raed Berro (Hezbollah) won the position of rapporteur after it was held by Ali Mokdad (Hezbollah).

    In the Human Rights Committee:

Michel Moussa (Amal Movement) retained his position as chairman while Nazih Matta (Lebanese Forces) won the position of rapporteur, previously held by Roula Tabesh (Future Movement).

In the Women and Children Committee:

Inaya Ezzedine (Amal Movement) retained the position of chairman. Similarly, Adnan Tranoulsi (Al Ahbash/March 8 affiliated) also retained his position of rapporteur.

    In the Information Technology Committee:

Tony Frangieh (Marada) won the position of chairman after it was held by Nadim Gemayel (Kataeb). Meanwhile, Elias Hankash (Kataeb) won the position of rapporteur, previously held by Ziad Hawat (Lebanese Forces).

It is worth noting that the opposition MPs couldn’t secure any chairman or rapporteur position in all 16 committees. They also failed to attain any membership in the prominent committees besides Ibrahim Mneimneh who was elected as a member of the Finance and Budget Committee.

This is an indication that opposition MPs won’t be able to achieve anything on their own, and they need to cooperate with other traditional parties with views similar to theirs in order to make a difference.
