Lebanon’s MPs Of Change Staged Sit-in By The Burning Silos Of Beirut Port

On Sunday, Lebanon’s Change MPs conducted a sit-in at the Beirut Port in protest of the government’s negligence and inadequacy in dealing with the silo fires that have been burning for over two weeks.

The MPs urged the government to release a statement to the people about the truth regarding the fires, and formulate a plan to extinguish them and prevent future spreading.

According to the port’s Director General, Omar Itani, the fires are believed to be caused by high temperatures and fermenting wheat.

On Friday, PM Najib Mikati claimed that the silos are at risk of collapsing as a result of the ongoing fires, and the high weather temperatures.

The Minister of Interior reported that Thursday’s fire was caused by the blaze spreading to electrical cables bordering the silos.

On Friday, the Lebanese Civil Defense announced that they have completed the first stage of fire extinguishment at the port’s silos.

However, the Beirut Port Silos are still burning.
