After the huge success of the Arabic adaptation of the Broadway play “Chicago” at the Casino du Liban, the cast will reunite again for three nights at the Beiteddine International Festival on August 2nd, 3rd, and 5th 2023.
The Arabic adaptation of the longest-running musical in Broadway history is written, choreographed, and directed by Roy El Khouri.
The cast includes prominent names like Mirva Kadi, Cynthia Karam, Roy El Khouri, Fouad Yammine, Youmna Bou Hadir, Matteo El Khodr, and Ilias Christophridis.
The cast is also supported by 20 dancers, 20 musicians, and vocalists, along with the composer Elio Kallassi and lyricist Anthony Khoury, from the popular Lebanese band Adonis.
Through the eyes of two women, Roxie Hart (Selma Fehmi in the Arabic version), who is accused of killing her lover, and Velma Kelly (Nancy Nar in the Arabic version), a cabaret singer who is accused of killing her husband and her sister, “Chicago” tells the tale of a city rife with corruption. Both women face rivalry with only one dream: fame.
The original production supervised the Arabic version and approved the script, songs, costumes, and stage.
The script and songs are translated word by word from English but still able to make it relatable to the Lebanese audience by including its unique humor.
