The seventh and most developed version of the anti-viral used in China in order to combat the spread of Coronavirus (the one finally giving results in Wuhan) was presented on March 14th by the Vice President of the Chinese Red Cross, Sun Shuopeng, to the Director of Spallanzani hospital, Giuseppe Ippolito.
It is the first act of the special mission of a team of nine doctors and anti-epidemic experts of the Beijing Health Commission who landed in the Italian capital on Thursday, this week.
The Commission is set to stay in Italy for ten days. They will also visit the Italian cities of Padua and Milan.
“You have helped us in the past, now it’s up to us to reciprocate, in the name of the great friendship that binds us,” said the Chinese Ambassador to Rome, Li Junhua.
This statement makes reference to the two Chinese patients treated and cured at Spallanzani, in Italy, and to the flight organized by Italy on February 15th from Farnesina with 18 tons of emergency medical material to Wuhan, China.
The Chinese Red Cross arrived in Rome with a load of 31 tons of medical equipment, including lung fans, respirators, monitors, tens of thousands of suits and masks, and herbal medicines.
The Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luigi Di Maio, thanked the delegation stating that the received equipment will save the lives of many Italian citizens.
The Minister then stopped at the Red Cross to donate blood, inviting all Italians to do it in such a delicate moment: “If you really want to leave the house, do it for a just cause,” he said.
