These Cities In The United States Are Holding Solidarity Protests For Lebanon!

Los Angeles, Dearborn, Houston, Washington DC, New York, San Francisco, North Caroline, Illinois, Boston, Illinois, Cleveland, Minnesota, and Florida are among the States protesting with the Lebanese people in Lebanon against tax increase amidst a severe economic crisis.

Protests have been breaking out all over Lebanon since Thursday night in response to new taxes, which is not only a huge added burden on the citizens but has brought the nation to lose hope of any serious reform from the government that could bring them relief from their long-enduring hardships.

To show full support and empathy to the cause, Lebanese expatriates are planning protests in their residential towns back in the US this weekend as a way to make their families and people in Lebanon feel supported and their demands heard internationally.

Consulate General of Lebanon, Washington DC

The Lebanese in Washington DC has announced their protest event this evening on their FB, with the message, “Join us this Saturday at 4 PM. We want Lebanon without corruption! We have a permit as well.  Media msg [email protected]

The protest will take place in front of the Lebanese Consulate, on 2560 28th St NW, Washington, District of Columbia 20008.

Consulate General of Lebanon, New York City

Lebanese in New York have planned a silent vigil, which is being held at the moment, Friday 18th October at 6:30 pm Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) in front of the Consulate.

Organizers sent out a message saying: “Bring your rage, discontent, anger, and support. Join us in protest against injustice and oppression in Lebanon. We are still here, an integral part of Lebanon’s fabric, inseparable from their plights, simultaneously affected by the state’s inaction and the shortfalls of its policies. We stand in protest and solidarity.”

Consulate General of Lebanon, Los Angeles

The protest in Los Angeles is taking place on Saturday 19th October at 11:00 am Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) in front of the Lebanese Consulate.

Protest organizers have also attached some safety tips and reminders for the protestors, asking them to abide by the guidelines listed in their Facebook event under the title “We The People: Lebanese Diaspora Civil Protest” so that they remain under the No-Permits-Required Protest.

Houston, Texas

Lebanese in texas are gathering on Saturday 19th October from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, Texas time, in Houston, in front of Starbucks at 2521 Post Oak Blvd Houston, Texas 77056.

Organizers urged protestors to come wearing white shirts and get their signs and Lebanese flags, also suggesting that they can bring a USA flag as well.

Boston, Massachusetts

The Lebanese in Boston will be protesting in Copley Square, Boston Public Library, in front of Gebran Khalil Gebran memorial on Sunday 20th October 2019 at 4:00 pm, Boston time. This protest is organized by Lebanese Youth Leadership, an initiative by Lebanese youth in Boston, MA.

Dearborn, Michigan

Dearborn residents will be protesting the Lebanese government this Sunday 20th October at Ford Field Park in Dearborn at 4:00 pm, Michigan time. The City of Dearborn TCD wrote on Facebook: “The protest is aimed to stand with the Lebanese people and stand against government corruption in the country.”

San Francisco

Under the call SF in Solidarity with Lebanon, Lebanese and friends of Lebanon will gather at the Cupid’s span at the intersection of The Embarcaderoand Folsom Streets, tomorrow Saturday, Oct 19th from 4 PM to 5 PM local time.

“Let’s stand in solidarity with our friends and families back home! Get your flags, make posters, and spread the word,” their FB event message says.

North Carolina

Peaceful protest will be held in front of the Triangle Lebanese-American Center in Raleigh North Carolina on Sunday, 20th October at 4:00 pm, local time at 241 Horizon drive, Raleigh, NC 27615.

Champaign, Illinois

Lebanese residing in Illinois held a small protest in solidarity wih Lebanon on Friday, 18th October.

After singing the Lebanese National Anthem, Lebanese marched their way across Champaign. “Today, 10,000 Km away from home, we came together to show our support to our brothers and sisters leading the revolution back home.

Christians and Muslims, from all backgrounds and regions of the country, we stood united as one. We sang our national anthem, held one flag, and went out to dinner together afterwards!” One of the protestors wrote on Facebook.

Raleigh – North Carolina

Peaceful protest will be held in front of the Triangle Lebanese-American Center in Raleigh North Carolina on Sunday at 4 pm

Chicago, Illinois

Chicago is organizing a protest on Sunday, 20th October at 3:00 pm local time, at the Millennium Park, near “The Bean”. The organizers are asking supporters to only bring Lebanese flags, adding that there will not be chants but just singing the National Anthem.

Scottsdale, Arizona

A Protest will take place on Sunday, 20th October from 5:00 pm to 5:45 pm local time at Chaparral Park, 5401 N Hayden RD, Scottsdale, AZ 85250. The meeting point will be at the parking lot by South Ramada

Cleveland, Ohio

The Lebanese in Cleveland will be protesting on Saturday, October 19th at Cleveland Public Square at 6:00 pm. Just like LA, organizers have also listed some rules for protestors to abide so that they remain under the No-Permits-Required Protests.

Eagan, Minnesota

The protest was held Saturday, 19th October from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Lebanon Hills Regional Park. Organizors wrote on Facebook: “Join the Lebanese community in solidarity to protest the current state of the Lebanese Government. This will be an event to show support from Minnesota to our Beloved Lebanon. We will be getting together as a nation.”

Tampa, Florida

Lebanese-Floridians organized a protest on Sunday, 20th October Sts. Peter & Paul Maronite Catholic Church at 2:30 pm local time. The protest is titled “Lebanon from Tampa, We Stand in Unity”.

Dallas, Texas

The protest will take place on Sunday, 20th October at 10:00 am local time at Klyde Warren Park. Lebanese people in Dallas have decided to organize a protest in Dallas to protest “the corrupt Lebanese government and show support to our people back home” as stated in their Facebook event.


Their first protest was held on Sunday, Oct 19th, and two more will be held during the weekend of Oct 26 and 27 at the Centennial Olympic Park, from 5 PM local time.

The Lebanese in the diaspora seem to have been enduring the same frustration of their families and friends in Lebanon for so long. As per the organizer of the Atlanta event, their first demonstration was pretty successful, “bas ma fashayna khele2na.”

Minneapolis, Minnesota

The Lebanese people of Minneapolis are taking the streets on Sunday, 27th October at 1:00 pm local time at Dickman Park, NE Minneapolis.

Organizers urged protestors not to include any chants that are related to political affiliation or religious sectarians. “We are Lebanese first and demand urgent and immediate action from the Lebanese Government.”

University of California, Berkeley

The Lebanese students of UC Berkeley organized a protest in support with Lebanon’s fight on Tuesday, 22nd October at Sproul Hall, Berkeley, CA 94720, United States.

The students wrote in their Facebook event: “The Lebanese citizens have been living with a corrupt government, billions of dollars in debt, and have had enough. Now is our time to stand with them for support. EVERYONE IS WELCOME!”

Seattle, Washington

Seattle’s protest took place on Sunday, 21st October under the title of “From Seattle to Beirut: A Stand in Solidarity”. Protestors brought the Lebanese flags with them as well as posters of support as they peacefully protested on the streets of Seattle.

These are some of the many that are taking place this weekend in the United States. Please note that most protests have been planned spontaneously today, as our fans in the US, Canada, and European Cities are informing us as they come up with theirs.
