Mounia Akl’s Costa Brava, Lebanon has received a special mention for its ensemble cast at the Santiago International Film Festival 2022.
Launched last year in Venice, the film tells the story of a Lebanese family that moves to the mountains to get away from Beirut’s pollution and wakes up one day to a garbage landfill built outside their home.
The film is directed by Mounia Akl and stars the Oscar-nominated Lebanese actress and filmmaker Nadine Labaki, Nadia Charbel, Saleh Bakri, Seana Restom, Geana Restom, Liliane Khoury, François Nour, Youmna Marwan, and Muhyiddin Al Karra.
This selection comes as Costa Brava, Lebanon‘s 15th award, as it previously won numerous prizes at major film festivals, namely the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and the 65th BFI London Film Festival.
It has also brought the U.S. film distributor Kino Lorber to acquire the North American rights to Costa Brava, Lebanon.
