Cyprus police announced on Saturday the arrest of four Syrian individuals, aged between 17 and 21, in connection with a minor explosion near the Israeli Embassy in Nicosia.
The suspects are facing multiple charges, including attempted property destruction using explosives and possession of a knife.
While the explosion caused no damage, it occurred just 30 meters away from the Israeli Embassy.
The police have not confirmed if the incident is related to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Following the recent attacks by Hamas on Israel, security measures have been heightened across the European Union.
A court in Nicosia has ordered the suspects to remain in police custody for six days pending further investigation.
Two of the suspects were apprehended near the explosion site, and the other two were found in a car parked in a nearby alley, where authorities also discovered two knives and a hammer.
Bomb squad officers reported finding a “very small quantity of pyrotechnic material” at the scene.
