Islamic State has claimed responsibility for two explosions in Iran, marking the deadliest attack since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
The blasts occurred at a memorial in Kerman for Qassem Soleimani, killing nearly 100 and injuring 284, including children. Tehran has vowed a strong retaliation.
IS, through messages on affiliated Telegram channels, announced that two of its members activated explosive belts amid the crowd.
The United Nations Security Council condemned the attack, and the U.S. denied involvement. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps and President Raisi have also denounced the attacks.
The incident has heightened tensions, with mass protests and funerals planned.
