On Monday, Doctor Abdul Rahman Bizri, the chairman of the national committee for the vaccine of Covid-19, said that the “epidemiological indicators indicate the decline of the recent wave of Covid-19 cases that have hit the country and the end of its acute phase.”
Dr. Bizri explained that there is a decrease in the rate of transmission among citizens, adding that there is a gradual decline in the number of new cases and the mortality rate is stable.
“Although there are positive signs of the receding wave, the vaccine must be used to build a higher societal immunity rate, especially since official statistics indicate that 95% of deaths are non-vaccinated [people],” he added.
The global pandemic has greatly affected Lebanon and its economy, adding to the people’s hardships at years’ worth of corruption and neglect leading to hyperinflation and to the Beirut port explosion.
Other crises are now shaping up again as the Russian-Ukrainian war spins out, freezing the supplies of wheat and fuel.
