The investigative judge leading the Beirut Blast probe has just indicted four Lebanese politicians over the port explosion, reported NNA on Thursday afternoon.
Judge Fadi Sawwan has charged caretaker Prime Minister Hassan Diab, and former ministers Ghazi Zaiter, Ali Hassan Khalil, and Youssef Fenianos, with the crime of negligence causing the death of nearly 200 people and injury of thousands.
The four will be interrogated as defendants starting Monday.
It’s worth mentioning that the outgoing prime minister has been in office for less than a year before resigning in the wake of the blast.
It was revealed following the explosion that he, along with President Michel Aoun, had been informed about the dangerous material stored at the port shortly before it exploded.
The ammonium nitrate had been stored there for over half a decade.
In response, Diab’s office released a statement saying that his conscience is clear and that he is “confident of his clean hand and responsible and transparent handling of the Beirut Port explosion case.”
