Mario Abdo Benítez of Lebanese origins was just elected as Paraguay's president

Conservative candidate Mario Abdo Benítez, who is a former senator, was just elected as Paraguay's new President after winning 46.46% of the vote. His rival, the liberal candidate Efraín Alegre, secured 42.73% of the vote. The South American country suffers from poverty and injustice. Mr. Benítez vowed to keep taxes low and do a better job of collecting them to invest in education and healthcare. He also promised to boost agricultural exports since Paraguay is a leading exporter of soybeans and beef. Mr. Benítez joined the Paraguayan Armed Forces and obtained the rank of Second Lieutenant of Reserve Aviation. Later, he majored in marketing at Teikyo Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut.
