In El-Mina – Tripoli, a woman was hit straight in the head by one of many stray bullets fired in the air Friday noon.
Heavy gunfire was shot during the funeral of a young man named Mohamad Al-Hosni, who drowned in a ferry of emigrants trying to escape illegally to Cyprus.
The injured woman, identified as Dr. A.A., was taken to nearby Monla Hospital for treatment. According to NNA, she is in stable condition.
Al-Hosni drowned in search of better opportunities to escape financial difficulties and hardships many face in Lebanon. His body was recovered from the sea by the Lebanese Civil Defense sea rescue unit.
This incident happened shortly after Lebanese football player, Mohammad Atwe, passed away from a bullet wound he sustained last month.
He had been fighting for life for the past month after being hit by a stray bullet coming from the funeral of a firefighter who had died during the Beirut explosion.
Days ago, a man in the Abu Samra area in Tripoli was hit by a stray bullet that was shot in the air during the funeral procession of four Lebanese soldiers who were killed during a raid on a terrorist cell.
In Lebanon, “celebratory” gunfire can turn weddings to funerals and funerals to more funerals… It is a dangerous and useless tradition in Lebanon that inarguably must be put to an end.
