In a stunning victory, Donald Trump has won the U.S. presidential election, making a significant return to the political spotlight.
Surpassing 270 electoral votes, Trump has clinched the presidency in a highly competitive race. He will be sworn in as the 47th president on January 20th, 2025.
During his campaign, Trump made several gestures toward the Lebanese-American community, recently visiting a Lebanese-owned restaurant in Dearborn, Michigan. At the restaurant, he stated confidently, “You’re going to have peace in the Middle East when I’m president, not with the clowns you have running the U.S. right now. We have a great feeling for Lebanon, and I know so many people from Lebanon, Lebanese people.”
Trump’s statements on Lebanon and the Middle East, along with his calls for stability in the region, appear to have resonated with the Lebanese-American community.
Recent 961 News polls showed Lebanese Americans favoring Trump over his opponent by as much as 80%. His running mate, Vice President-elect J.D. Vance, was also seen attending a service at a Lebanese Maronite church in Ohio on Election Day, signaling their campaign’s focus on cultural ties.
Lebanese Massad Boulos, the father of Trump’s son-in-law, led the campaign’s mobilization of Lebanese and Arab voters in the US. Trump’s daughter, Tiffany, recently announced her pregnancy with Michael Boulos.
In addition to winning the presidency, Republicans won the Senate majority, and majority of Governors, and are on track to win the House majority.
As he prepares to take office, Trump’s policies and plans for the Middle East and his commitment to U.S.-Lebanon relations will be closely watched by Lebanese Americans and supporters in Lebanon.
