Electricité du Liban (EDL), Lebanon’s state-owned electricity company, has extended the deadline for public institutions to pay their outstanding electricity bills.
This decision comes after a meeting involving the Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance, and other key stakeholders.
The meeting aimed to find solutions for the overdue payments, which exceed $14 million for November and December 2022 alone. EDL warned that failure to settle these bills within a month would result in power cuts.
The company emphasized that electricity is a commodity that must be paid for by all consumers, including public institutions, to maintain its financial stability.
