Lebanese comedian, actor, and presenter Adel Karam and Netflix are joining forces again in a new original series titled Dollar that is set to hit the screens next month.
Adel Karam took to Instagram to share the news with his one million followers, sharing posters of the series, announcing that something exciting is coming up on Netflix this August, and giving the first glimpse of the show.
In the upcoming Dollar drama series, which is set in modern-day Lebanon, the Lebanese actor will star alongside Algerian actress Amal Bouchoucha and play a more serious character to fit the fast-paced and action-packed story.
The series tells the story of Tarek (Adel Karam), an advertising mastermind who comes up with an idea of opening a new bank in Lebanon worth one million dollars. However, Tarek shares his idea only with the Zina (Amal Bouchoucha), a young and intelligent financial bank manager who feels that something is off. Will she solve the mystery before things get out of hand?
The 15-episode series is written by Egyptian screenwriter Hisham Hilal. It's directed by Syrian director Samer Berkawi, who has directed hit-shows like Al Hayba, and is produced by Beirut’s Cedars Art Production - Sabah Media Cooperation.
Dollar will premiere on August 8, with all 15 episodes available to watch immediately on Netflix. The series will be subtitled in 20 languages to be available to 148 million members in over 190 countries. It will be designated as a Netflix Original in markets where Netflix is the first to show it.
This makes Dollar the fourth Arabic original series of Netflix, following Jinn, which is already streaming, and the previously announced Al Rawabi School for Girls and Paranormal, both expected to launch later this year.
Adel Karam first appeared on Netflix in his own stand up special comedy show, in early 2018. He hosted the first Middle Eastern production of Netflix live from Beirut, putting the Lebanese comedy on the international map.
