The EU Issued A Statement Denouncing The Lebanese Decision-Makers

The Delegation of the European Union to Lebanon along with European member states in Lebanon issued a statement on Wednesday strongly condemning the Lebanese government and the Lebanese decision-makers.

The statement called on the Lebanese government and other decision-making officials in Lebanon:

  • “to restore, without further delays, their decision-making capability, which would inter alia require the resumption of regular meetings of the Council of Ministers, in order to address the dramatic crises Lebanon is facing.”
  • “To conclude without further delays, in line with their repeated and consistent announcements and commitments, an IMF agreement which would support in finding a way out of the macro-economic and fiscal crises, and to take all the necessary decisions and measures immediately.”
  • “To take all necessary decisions and steps to enable the Supervisory Commission for Elections to carry out its mandate, in line with their repeated and consistent announcements and commitments, and to ensure an adequate process leading to fair and transparent elections in 2022.”

The statement concluded with a repeated call to action for justice and accountability in the investigation of the Beirut Blast, demanding it to be independent and transparent. The EU called for the decision-makers to respect the independence of the judiciary and abide by the principle of division of powers.
