Nawaf Salam is a prominent Lebanese diplomat and jurist who comes from a family already involved in the political scene, with two former Prime Ministers.
After graduating from Harvard Law School, Salam began teaching at the American University of Beirut (AUB), the Sorbonne in Paris, and Harvard University in the United States.
He soon landed himself the pivotal role as Lebanon’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in 2007. During his tenure at the UN, Salam advocated for Lebanon’s sovereignty and sought global support during critical times.

In 2017, he was elected as a judge to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), and in 2014 he was designated as its president.
Dr. Nawaf Salam also served as a judge in the high-profile case brought by South Africa against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), alleging genocide in Gaza.
Nawaf Salam was appointed as Lebanon’s new Prime Minister following the election of President Joseph Aoun, which marks a new era in Lebanon’s political landscape.
His appointment marks a pivotal moment for the Beirut explosion case, as his previous statements emphasize his commitment to bringing justice to the court.
In his inaugural speech, Prime Minister Salam emphasized his commitment to extend a hand to all political fractions. His leadership is anticipated to play a role in the country’s path towards recovery.
