Fire Broke Out In A Wild Pine Forest In Lebanon

On Tuesday afternoon a fire broke out in the largest wild pine forest in the Middle East, Battermaz/Al-Safiri Forest, located in the Denniye District, north Lebanon.

The Minister of Environment, Dr. Nasser Yassin, confirmed today, Wednesday, that the army was unable to send a helicopter at night because of the fog, and it has been working since the morning hours to address the issue.

Dr. Yassin said he had contacted the Disaster Management Unit and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in case there was a need for support from Cyprus.

In addition to communicating with the judiciary and the Minster of Interior to tighten the penalties against the perpetrators if investigations proved that the fire was premeditated.
