Former Lebanese President Michel Suleiman recently made a statement emphasizing the need for Lebanon to have exclusive state control over decisions related to war and peace.
Suleiman pointed out that while Lebanon has a vested interest in avoiding the ongoing conflict between Palestinians and Israel, the country must also be cautious of threats from Israeli officials.
Statements like “We will crush Lebanon” and “We will destroy Lebanon” from Israeli authorities indicate the animosity harbored towards Lebanon.
Suleiman urged for unity among the various sects in Lebanon and for the immediate implementation of constitutional mandates. He stressed that decisions about war and peace should be confined to the state and its national army.
