The “Campaign to Boycott Supporters of Israel” group in Lebanon is calling to boycott the newly-released Marvel movie, “Thor: Love and Thunder”, because of its Israeli star, Natalie Portman.
This is not the first time that this group issued a call to boycott such movies.
Previously, the group’s page on social media led to banning Disney’s “Death on the Nile,” in Lebanon due to its main star, Gal Gadot, an Israeli actress with ties to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).
The country also banned the movie “Wonder Woman” from screening twice due to Gadot’s connection with the IDF.
The Lebanese authorities are not only censuring movies because of ties with Israel, as they recently banned two movies for reported “concerns”.
The new Pixar movie “Lightyear,” was banned because of a scene in the movie in which the character Buzz’s close female friend is seen sharing a brief kiss with her female lover.
Additionally, the new “Minions: The Rise Of Gru” was also banned from screening, reportedly because of an evil nun character that is seen holding a nunchuck.
The recent censorship of movies triggered backlashes, with some accusing the Lebanese authorities of “having reached a new low.”
