Saleh al-Arouri, Deputy Head of the Political Bureau of Hamas, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut’s Dahieh area.
Israeli media reported that al-Arouri was scheduled to meet Hassan Nasrallah, leader of Hezbollah, the next day.
This incident adds to the ongoing tensions between Hezbollah and Israel, marked by border skirmishes since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7.
The airstrikes in Al-Mashrafieh, a Hezbollah stronghold, are the first in Beirut since the 2006 war. They resulted in multiple casualties and significant destruction.
